Step by Step

Yesterday at 10 am through this morning at 10 am, I was Relay for Life for the Davis area. If you haven't heard of it, it's a world-wide event where teams come together at various locations to walk around a track for 24 hours and raise money and awareness for cancer research. Basically, at least one person from your team has to be on the track at all times for the entire event. With the campus fellowship I attend, we were able to form four teams worth of people, and so I spent a whole lot of yesterday and a good part of today just walking... and walking... and walking.

And as I was having my quiet time yesterday morning just before leaving for Relay, the power of the prayer we've been praying together really hit me:

May we walk in a manner worthy of You, Lord, to please you in all respects, bearing good fruit in every good work.

It was so cool to pray this prayer in such a tangible way. All day, I was reminded again and again to pray that my walking would be glorifying to Him. I found myself praying that because our teams were openly professing to be formed by a Christian organization, everything about our conduct, our fellowship, our interactions with other teams, our walking would be pleasing to Him and worthy of YHWH's name. And I prayed that He would take the offering that I had - one day - and make it fruitful and glorifying to Him.

And then the biggest blessing was to watch that prayer get answered again, and again, and AGAIN throughout the day. He was so faithful, and I did see fruit in every good work. I had so many insanely fruitful and Spirit-led conversations walking around that track yesterday, and I get to attribute it all to the work of my Father! He even used the short-term answer to this prayer to answer some long-term prayer requests that have been on my heart for quite a while now.

Father, as we walk daily - not just at special events - would everything about our manner be worthy of Your name. Would each step be pleasing to You, and when we see the abundance of fruit You provide, would we never fail to attribute all the glory to YHWH.
