Bare with me, blogging is definitely not my forte. With that said, lately I have been thinking about the idea of leadership, what makes a good leader, what do people have that commands attention versus those who seem to be in the background. For some reason, in the last couple years I have been forced into the role of a leader, not necessarily by my own choice, but I find it compelling. I do not like to think of myself as the power hungry type, but having power can easily turn into telling everyone what to do based on what is beneficial to you. Alas, “When you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,” (Matthew 6:3) which is a hard statement to think through. As a leader, an individual is supposed to be so humble about the power which he possesses, that he should not even boast to himself. I will be the first to admit that I like to receive praise and acknowledgement for something that I did well, but I am supposed to hide this good deed I did entirely. Knowing that God has seen it, that is where we should take our comfort. “…Then your father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” (Matthew 6:4). Visualize leadership; if you are like me, you will see a few people organizing many into some manner, which fits some purpose. How much planning went into that though? We as drivers and trainees have begun the process of leadership, by preparing ourselves for those weeks during the summer, are taking steps that the kids will never know about or think about. Think about how much more the directors and admin have done that we do not necessarily think about. It’s crazy to think that we hide our works and then love kids and almost make it seem like we show up and go to work like they show up and have fun. God is sooo good though through this, HE glorifies us when we ask for it from no one else.
